We had the first Scarlet Tanager of the spring in our yard this morning - an absolutely stunning male glowing in the morning sunshine as he sat in a treetop - and saw three Broadwing Hawks going north. Alphie is still guarding both sugar water feeders and giving us some terrific views of his fiery gorget but an immature male Ruby-throated that came yesterday seems determined to feed here also, so they are having some aerial dogfights which are amazing to watch. We leave Tuesday morning for Dauphin Island and then on to High Island and hope the migration will be in full flow by the time we get to the coast. Any suggestions from recent visitors to these areas will be appreciated.
