Hope Park Church Campus Nashville-Davidson Co. TN Saturday 23 April 2011 . Twenty-two birders joined today's Field Trip sponsored by the Nashville Chapter of TOS on the campus of Hope Park Church off Highway 70S in western Nashville-Davidson County. The extensive property, adjacent to the Harpeth River, consists of rolling deeply-wooded hills with some open areas, providing nice edge habitat. There is even a small pond, where we spied a GREEN HERON. Highlights consisted of numerous singing KENTUCKY WARBLERS, a few of which presented themselves for viewing, a male SCARLET TANAGER on one branch with a male ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK just below, a fine-looking male BLACKBURNIAN WARBLER and INDIGO BUNTING as well as a some good views of both WHITE-EYED and RED-EYED VIREOS. The birds kept the group entertained for at least three hours. As the walk was wrapping up, an Accipiter flew overhead, giving us some confusing signs as to its identity. Some of us called out "Cooper's" while others said "Sharp-shinned". This bird is listed below as Accipiter species-- I'm surely not going to be partial! Thanks to all who participated and to the folks at Hope Park who gave us an opportunity to bird a relatively unknown and beautiful spot.
