Good afternoon listers...
After a great morning of birding with our fellow NTOS members at Hope Park
Church, Steve and I decided to drop by Bell's Bend on our way home to see what
we could pshhh up.
We arrived there around 12:30 pm at the lower parking lot and were immediately
greeted with the song of a PRAIRE WARBLER (there were many heard along our
way), the flitting of a pair of BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHERS, the songs of FIELD
SPARROWS and one of many COMMOM YELLOW THROATS. Within 50 ft of the bridge we
were treated to the sight and sound of a gorgeous YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT. We
would see and hear at least 6 as we walked along. Another treat were 5 calling
NORTHERN BOBWHITES. We saw them up near the barn/picnic area. Rounding out the
list during our hour visit were RED-WINGED BLACKBIRDS, EASTERN MEADOWLARK,
BLACK AND TURKEY VULTURES, EASTERN BLUEBIRD, BROWN-HEADED COWBIRDS AND COMMON
GRACKLE. We did not see or hear the HENSLOW'S SPARROW but the sun was high in
the sky and the heat of the day was upon us. Perhaps next time...
 Until next time,
Good birding!
