This Saturday Feb. 19, there will be field trip to birding sites on Percy
Priest Lake, in Nashville.
Meeting time: 7:30 AM Adventure Science Museum lower parking lot, or 8:00
AM at the dam upper parking lot. We will check sites around the western
part of the lake to include: the dam area, Anderson Rd, Hamilton Creek, and
Cook Rec areas, and end up at Long Hunter State Park about 12 noon. All
welcome

Leader: Richard Connors, Nashville TN (615) 330-7142

See below brief report of scouting visit 2/15.

Tuesday loons outnumbered gulls on the lake, with aprox. total 120 Com
Loons seen at all stops. Even considering mid-day visit Ring-billed gull
numbers seemed down, and no Bonaparte's or Herring were seen. A late-day visit
might turn up numbers still roosting. Even on the east end at Fall
Creek/Spring Creek, where Bonaparte's usually outnumber ringers, none were
seen, and
at Lamar Hill where a few Herring Gulls can usually be found in winter,
none were seen. Maybe winter's over?
All loons seen well were in some stage of transition, some mottled and a
few near breeding condition. So maybe Saturday we will see at least one in
breeding plumage.
At Long Hunter SP a few Hooded Mergansers (8) were seen at the usual site
on Couchville Lake.
