Stormy weather is the best weather for finding interesting transients
at Old Hickory Lake, so I spent a few hours there this morning. In
"classic" Old Hickory Lake fashion, I had one flock of five shorebirds
at Snow Bunting Peninsula (on the Davidson Co. side), but it was
comprised of three species: 2 Western Sandpipers, 2 Dunlin, and a
Least Sandpiper. All five were first cycle birds; the Westerns and
Least were in first alternate and the Dunlin were in first basic,
although one was starting to molt in some alternate feathers.

Other highlights:

1 Red-breasted Merganser
a nice mixed flock of gulls and terns, including a good number of Caspian Terns
4 Warbling Vireos (FOS for me)
2 Western Palm Warblers (FOS for me)
1 Nashville Warbler (FOS for me)

Also in the yard (in Forest Hills area of Nashville), I had my first
Blue-winged and Hooded Warblers. The Hooded was at the bottom of the
driveway in some marginally suitable breeding habitat so there's an
outside chance it was on territory.
