April 16, 2011

Greene County: Greeneville, Kinser Park area, Bridge Burners Boulevard,
Wal-Mart-Distribution Center, etc.

David Kirschke has already posted the shorebirds present at Bridge Burners
Boulevard late this morning when he and I visited it. We also observed some
waterfowl and other species there, as well as at Wal-Mart Distribtuion Center,
although species were few at WMDC. As he indicated, weather was not in our
favor. Winds were high, and temperatures were unpleasantly warm for April.

Before meeting David at the boulevard, I birded for about forty-five minutes in
the Kinser Park area and at a few other sites.

Highlights of the day included--

Blue-winged Teal (29, mostly at Bridge Burners Blvd.)
Northern Shoveler (6, Bridge Burners Blvd.)
Ring-necked Duck (Bridge Burners Blvd.)
Lesser Scaup (Bridge Burners Blvd.)
Bufflehead (2, Bridge Burners Blvd.)
Hooded Merganser (8, Bridge Burners Blvd.)
Pied-billed Grebe (3, Bridge Burners Blvd.)
Osprey (Kinser Park)
American Coot (23, Bridge Burners Blvd. and WMDC)

Spotted Sandpiper (Baughard Hill Rd.)
Wilson's Snipe (2, WMDC)
Eastern Kingbird
White-eyed Vireo
Yellow-throated Vireo
Red-eyed Vireo
Horned Lark (Baughard Hill Rd.)
Purple Martin (2)
