My apologies to those that have already seen this on the Tennessee Birding Facebook page. My Dad hadn't birded in years, but those who were actively birding back in the '80's might remember him. Most probably remember him as the good Dad who carted the young teen birder around from one end of the state to the other, but he developed his own fascination with birds as well. I went thru a long hiatus in my birding career from the late 80's thru the 90's, but he continued to bird on his own for several years after I (very regrettably now....) lost interest. His claim to fame would probably be photographing the Variegated Flycatcher that he, myself, and Don Manning found up at Reelfoot back in '84. Without his photos the bird wouldn't have been conclusively identified, and was just the 2nd ABA record at the time (which doesn't happen often in the interior). Dad passed away last night, after lung disease finally got the best of him. We will look at some birds, have a drink or two, and go to some musclecar races again one of these days; Miss ya Dad Mike Todd McKenzie, TN
