Percy Priest WMA, Dog Trial Area / MTSU ponds
8/3/12
Rutherford County

Had a fine morning of birding at the dog trial grounds. No shorebirds (of
course), although the habitat is starting to look pretty good. The ponds are
all weedy, but the water is about 6 inches deep or so in most of them. Anyway,
the shorebirds may not have come out, but everything else did, and lots of
birds were singing all over the area. Almost felt like spring migration, minus
the warblers. (Actually, strike that. This is Rutherford County and we don't
have any warblers, so we'll just say it felt like spring migration all the way
around.)

I also took a quick look at the MTSU ponds. The south pond is basically dry
now, but there were still two Least Sandpipers poking around in the mud and
trying to stay out of the way of the Killdeers. (I saw one run from a Killdeer,
only to nearly get trampled by a second one, at which point he gave up and flew
away.)
