Five swallow-tailed kites were seen by myself, Steven Zipperer, Chad Smith, Chuck Estes, Ron Hoff and DollyAnn Myers, and a couple other folks (cant remember names at the moment) this afternoon from the R&D Slaughterhouse in Bledsoe Co. R&D is on Hwy 127, which is 9.5 mi south of the intersection of 127 and Hwy 30 in Pikeville. This is also about a mile north of the Chattanooga State Tech Comm College. The birds were flying relatively low over the fields and woods and working their way up and down the valley. We left the birds to fly around in the rain at 3pm. The big yard sale is going on this weekend along 127, so traffic is a going to be a mess. Great birding!!! Scott Somershoe Sent by me. There are photos and the one I saw had me anxious to get on the road! Good vicarious birding, Scott Somershoe State Ornithologist Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency P.O.
