Percy Warner Park Mossy Ridge Trail from Chickering Rd Nashville-Davidson Co. TN 30 April 2011 . At first light today I hiked the 4.5-mile Mossy Ridge Trail at Percy Warner Park. This trail runs through deep woods with some elevation changes. Spring storms have had some effect on the trail with trees down making for news openings in the forest. The downed trees proved to be busy with birds for some reason. It is there that I got some good looks, but for the most part I was birding by ear this morning as I kept moving. The impressive number of both TENNESSEE WARBLERS and SWAINSON'S THRUSH kept me busy ticking off my check list. The VEERY is a "probable". Lighting was not good and although the bird remained still for several minutes, he was silent. But what I observed was a bird more reddish than olive brown and with no discernible eye ring or spotting on chest. I heard my FOY EASTERN WOOD-PEWEE and two more as well. The YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT was making his strange sounds in the brush along the road as I was returning to the parking lot off Chickering Rd.
