Yesterday I reported seeing an Eastern Wood-Pewee for the second time after
what would be considered past the normal late date to see one (Nov. 16 was the
fist time). Today I went back, the bird was still there and I got pictures.
Apparently the picture file is too big as tn-bird would not even allow one
picture to be attached (I kept cutting back from 4 pics). I have four decent
ones I can send to individuals wanting take a look.
I first ran them by Chris Sloan to make sure my ID was not crazy. His answer
back was " Wow. That's a hell of a record. It's definitely a pewee. Honestly,
it's so out of season, I am not sure you can rule out Western Wood-Pewee".
When I posted last month Scott Somershoe said the record late date for
Tennessee was Nov. 20. Someone on tn-bird reported seeing one in Kingsport on
Dec. 7 this year. Now, is it an Eastern Wood-Pewee or an Western Wood-Pewee? If
anyone wants to try and see it tomorrow I am willing to go with you between
12:30 and 3:00 PM. The golf course is closed every winter.
