Just a follow up on the Piping Plovers I found this morning on snow bunting
peninsula at Old Hickory Lake, Davidson Co. I arrived about 7 am and didn't
find much of anything noteworthy on the lake, no terns, no shorebirds, etc. so
I walked the road and found a couple Indigo Buntings, Blackpoll Warbler, and
plenty of migrants (12 warbler species).

I scanned the peninsula again from a distance and somehow saw one of the pipers
from 150 yards on the gravel parking area. I slowly drove down to the
peninsula and found 2 piping plovers (one male, one female) and a dunlin
hanging out together. I was able to get some decent photos from the truck. At
some point they flew off for no apparent reason. I watched the three birds fly
away over the dam and out of sight. About 5 min later the birds reappeared and
stayed on the concrete boat landings. They spent about 20 min on the nearby
sandy beach as well. About 11:30 they flew and I never saw them again.

One of the piping plovers was banded, which I'll submit and hopefully find out
where it was banded.

Philip Casteel and I had a fly-by breeding plumage Laughing Gull at about
10:30, which wasted no time continuing on. It flew by and was gone.

Great birding!
