Radnor Lake State Natural Area Nashville-Davidson Co. TN 20 April 2011 . The overnight thunderstorms had moved east of Nashville this morning, which was encouraging enough for 13 birders to join today's NTOS-sponsored walk at Radnor Lake State Natural Area. In the mist and overcast skies we observed 11 warbler species, getting good looks at two HOODED WARBLERS, several PALM WARBLERS and numerous YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS. A YELLOW WARBLER flitted about in the vegetation by the spillway, but afforded good looks for only a few of us. But he made up for it by singing loud and clear, which may have added to the frustration of those of us who did NOT see the bird. After all, he was right there! A brilliant male SCARLET TANAGER remained out in bare branches long enough for us all to get good looks at him. And a colorful male INDIGO BUNTING posed for us at eye level. Perhaps these two provided the most consistent color on this gray day. The two BARRED OWLS calling to one another from almost-adjacent branches were pretty unusual as well. Below is a list of species observed. Thanks to all who participated.
