On Monday morning I skipped a bit of work and birded completely around Radnor Lake in two hours, from 7 - 9 am. Although I did not see the Osprey that the Dortchs and I found on Saturday, it was a great morning and I got several year birds. Birds of note included 1 silent male SCARLET TANAGER, looking fabulous, 1 BROAD-WINGED HAWK, 1 singing male ORCHARD ORIOLE. Compared to last week, the YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERs have been reduced by at least a factor of 10. Other warblers included: BLUE-WINGED, PALM, PROTHONOTARY (a Radnor specialty), LOUISIANA WATERTHRUSH, HOODED, and KENTUCKY (heard only). There were plenty of CHIMNEY SWIFTs and the WOOD DUCK pairs were decked out like they were going to the senior prom. I can hardly wait to visit Dauphin Island next weekend.
