...or Rankin WMA...Cocke County, TN (I believe directions are given on tnbirds.org) On Thursday evening, Audrey Hoff and I went up there hoping to see the Yellow-headed Blackbird. We did not, but we did find some other great birds. There were no Black Terns, so perhaps the storm that Boyd Sharp reported did indeed drive them off. Highlights: LAUGHING GULL (1) - This was truly an unexpected surprise. The gull flew past us twice. RUDDY TURNSTONE (1) WHITE IBIS (2) 1 imm, 1 adult also...over 150 Great Egrets, several Green Herons and Black-crowned Night-Herons, Eastern Kingbirds, 100's of Tree Swallows and a small number of Barn and Bank Swallows 1000+ shorebirds, including a few SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS. Worth a trip, even without a Yellow-headed Blackbird.
