Rankin Bottoms, Cocke county, 9/4/12, 2-4 PM, by canoe Douglas Lake elevation: 983.2 ft.; embayment still mostly flooded Mike Nelson hitched a ride with us for a quick trip before the predicted storm. Earlier, he had walked down the RR embankment about 50 yards before the crossing with Hill Rd. and hiked around the south end of the embayment. He allowed that the viewing was better from the water. Highlights were an uncommon SNOWY EGRET and a feeding flock of BLACK TERNS.
