Friday 3/30/12 DOE East Tennessee Technology Park, Roane County Around noon today, Jim Evans, TWRA manager for the WMA at the DOE East Tennessee Technology Park, called to let me know that a Horned Grebe had been seen near the outfall of the main pond on the west side of the ETTP Site. The spot is accessed by taking the Birchfield Road exit on the north side of Hwy 58 South. This is about six miles west of Oak Ridge. On Birchfield Road cross the railroad track and proceed straight following the west or left side of the pond. The outfall is on the northwest corner of the pond and there is a gravel parking area to pull off into. The outfall is 3/4 to 1 mile from Hwy 58S on Birchfield Road. Access is open to the ETTP site on this perimeter road but be aware that other roads may have access restrictions.
