Feb. 16, 20111400-1430
Greene Co.
This afternoon I observed two soaring hawks over Joacime Bible WMA along
S.Mohawk Rd. and Lick Creek. I put my field glasses on them and saw the
smaller one to be a red-tailed hawk....but the clearly larger one had the
markings of a female Rough-legged Hawk. The black wrist patches, black belly,
and white rump were all clearly seen against the blue sky and good light of the
afternoon. After observing for several minutes the hawk moved on West over the
refuge.
