On September 13th I received a text with photos about a possible Rufous
Hummingbird at a lady’s house. She had contacted an MTSU professor I am
acquainted with and he had her contact me. On Friday September 14 I observed
the bird and confirmed it was a Male Rufous Hummingbird. I asked if I could
bring the Lebanon Bird Club to see the bird on Saturday and contact Cyndi
Routledge to see if she could band the bird. She said yeas. Unfortunately, she
did not want anyone else to come. On Saturday September 15, 2018 I lead the
Lebanon Club over to her house where we met up with Cyndi. We all observed the
bird then Cyndi caught it and banded it. It was definitely an adult Male Rufous
Hummingbird. Needless to say, it was an exiting morning for all of us. After
that most of us went to our monthly meeting and listened to Chris Sloan’s talk
on birds of Uganda. What a presentation it was. Thanks again Chris. Great talk.
Thanks to Cyndi for coming and banding the bird. I have posted pictures on
Tennessee Birding Facebook page this morning, along with and ebird list which
is not near the woman’s property. Sorry I could not get more people on this
bird, but I always do what property owners want done.
