On October 25, I reported a total of about 25 sandhill cranes flying over the
Hiwassee Wildlife Refuge in Meigs County near Birchwood. All of them apparently
went on south because I didn't see or hear any more until today. From about
3:45 until about 4:45 PM today (Thursday, Nov. 17), I visited the HWR at the
viewing area and then went on to the Cherokee Removal Memorial Park. I saw and
heard less than 50 cranes from the gazebo at the viewing area. However, when I
went to the CRMP overlook, I saw a few hundred sandhills on Hiwassee Island and
more were arriving as I left.

My observations certainly concur with the observations reported in other posts
on this blog earlier today.
