Yesterday afternoon, my wife and I trundled over towards Columbia to see the Roseate Spoonbill that had been reported. We were in luck, as the young spoonbill was still present on Arrow Lake near Mt. Pleasant. Also present on the lake were 9 Great Egrets, 1 Little Blue Heron, 7 Great Blue Herons, 10 Double-crested Cormorants, 2 Forster's Terns and a single Black Tern. Kudos to Damien Simbeck for finding the Roseate Spoonbill and many thanks to Steve McConnell for posting this sighting. Afterwards, we took the scenic route back to Sewanee and stopped at Tims Ford Dam around 6:00 PM. There was a roost of 52 vultures at the dam (10 Black Vultures and 42 Turkey Vultures). Directions: Arrow Lake (Maury County) is located along Hwy 166, southeast of Mount Pleasant. From 166, follow Arrow Lake road around the lake until you come to a parking area. The spoonbill was preening itself on the western edge of the lake. Tims Ford Dam (Franklin County) is located along SR 50 approximately 11 miles west of Winchester.
