South Pittsgurgh, Tn. Marion Co. Trenton,Ga. Dade Co. We observed both male and female Scissor-tailed Flycatchers at both locations Sunday afternoon. Both females were sitting on their nests. Strange as it may seem both nests are on light poles at the High School football fields. Both are on the same corner of the of the pole and each bank of lights has a metal wire mesh with the nest on the mesh. As local birders know, these two towns are only a short distance away separated by Sand Mountain. I would like to make a suggestion that as many of us as possible check the schools in our immediate areas for additional nesting pairs. With all of the large open expanses of mowed grass, the many different types of playing fields, tall utility poles and the hundreds of yards of chain link fences, there is sufficient habitat ideally suitable for this species!
