Checked out Spark's Lane and the sewage ponds in Cades Cove (GSMNP) today from ~10:00 - 12:15. Birds were a little light but I got another juvenile RED-HEADED WOODPECKER near the first stream crossing on Spark's Ln. (w/ the gravel parking area). It was clinging to the top of a fence post trying to fit in w/ the many Phoebes around it perched on fence posts. It then flew up to a nearby tree for a minute or two before flying north. My best looks ever but I wish an adult would show up. partial lists: Spark's Ln: Common Yellowthroat - 1 Louisiana Waterthrush - 1 Red-Headed Woodpecker - 1 juv. sewage ponds: Palm Warbler - 2 Pine Warbler - 1 Wood Duck - 19 (4 males) Great Blue Heron - 1 13 Monarch butterflies (all flying SW) 21+ Wild Turkeys were seen throughout the Cove. Several more Turkeys and a Red-Shouldered Hawk were seen along US-321.
