Friday, 11/24/06 We checked out Rankin Bottoms (RB) by car, Ten Islands (TI) -between RB & DB - by canoe, and Dutch Bottoms (DB) from Newport Beach (across from DB church on 25E). Douglas Lake elevation is 965' - lots of succulent mudflat, continuing to provide for shorebirds. Their numbers have been holding up (100+) since midsummer. Highlights: Canada Goose (23, TI flyby) Green winged teal (17, TI) Pied-billed grebe (4, DB) Horned grebe (2, DB) Double-crested cormorant (DB, TI) Great blue heron (57) Great egret (2, RB) Sharp-shinned hawk (RB) Peregrine falcon (adult, TI) Sandhill crane (3, TI) Killdeer (63) Least sandpiper (22 DB, 41 TI) Dunlin (66 DB, 9 TI [those were in Jefferson county, Don]) YB sapsucker (RB) Golden-crowned kinglet (3, RB) Hermit thrush (RB) Yellow-rumped warbler (9, RB) Swamp sparrow (RB) Michael Sledjeski & Leslie Gibbens Del Rio, Cocke County TN =================NOTES TO SUBSCRIBER===================== The TN-Bird Net requires you to SIGN YOUR MESSAGE with first and last name, CITY (TOWN) and state abbreviation.
