Since my Christmas celebration with all the family was held last weekend, I
took advantage of the peace and the beautiful weather and, whatelse, went
birding. The Air Park Inn area back by the lagoon kept me fascinated for quite
a while. There I was able to locate the Louisiana Waterthrush that was found
on the CBC on Sat. and the Orange Crowned Warbler. Good looks at both. Also
the Tree Sparrows (4+) were very active on the trail past the lagoon which is
on the far end of the property past the campgrounds. If you follow this trail it
takes you across a foot bridge and back out on the road where the Waterthrush
was located. The Waterthrush and the Orange Crowned were on the road that runs
south of the lagoon along the stream. Of course, finally finding the Vermilion
Flycatcher at 3PM was the iciing on the cake for the day. I was able to get a
decent shot of it. It was up toward the bathhouse about mid way sitting in a
short tree and flycatching and dropping down to the water by the road. Dinner
at five with neighbors will finish off my day and the owls as I walk home will
be a bonus. Merry Christmas to all, and to all.. good birding.
