22 February 2003 Wal-Mart Distribution Center Greene County Carol and I spent the early morning fighting rain but were treated to some spectacular views of Gadwalls (3), Hooded Mergansers (3), Northern Shovelers (2), Great Blue Heron (1), and Mallards (8) feeding in the stormwater detention ponds south of the main building. Red-tailed Hawks (2) were also seen feeding on a snake and frog. Numerous Canada Geese were seen in the stormwater detention pond located north of the center. A brief stop at the then flooded area of Lick Creek yielded the typical winter palette of Blue Jays, Northern Cardinals, Downy Woodpecker, Carolina Chickadees, and Tufted Titmice with the addition of an Eastern Meadowlark. Spring must be near with Winter Jasmine (Jasminum nudiflorum) blooming nearby.
