At 7 PM I was near the Armstrong Ferry Road campground in Meigs County when I
observed about 140 white pelicans on a mud bar in the Tennessee River. Only a
relatively small number of the pelicans were standing. The rest were asleep (?)
and packed very close together, making it impossible to get an exact count.
The campground with its boat ramp, picnic tables, campsites, etc. is privately
managed, so I always park on the road right-of-way. So far, no one has asked me
to pay the $5 daily fee required for those utilizing the area.
