I believe Dave from Tynnesoft added the chime to the older roms for his mini
pet. He used my editor rom project code and said that he would share it at some
point. I believe he built an option rom to add wedge, so perhaps he added code
for the startup chime there. Rather than insert code and move the other code
its usually easier to take out a few bytes somewhere and replace them with a
jsr to the new code (somewhere else), do the chime, then do the code that was
removed, then rts back to the calling routine. That said, i have not looked at
his code so it might be better to ask him directly.

You could create a custom ROM to do this. You’d have to pull the dozen
or so opcodes from a newer PET and stick them in an older one. The whole
thing isn’t simple but ultimately is doable.
