There is a new BBS program called MYSTIC which is still being developed, supports various OS's, including pi (BTW, there is a new pi system out called Banana pi, dual core, 1gb, link later). I've been thinking of starting up a pc based BBS in lieu of a Commodore BBS only because I do not have any issues with sacrafficing a PC in terms of wear and tear, where-as I feel very protective over my IEEE drives as they can not be replaced easily. Rob does bring up a good idea, a PI based BBS, you can by a pi for about $60, and this new Banana pi has got my attention. Then again, a used PC (for BBS use) can be bought for about the same price. I keep flip flopping back and forth, even settled in the middle to make both, then my time computer gets lost with family/kids, and I forget about what I had thought! In terms of Vice BBS, I have seen Color64 bbs's apparently emulated in Vice, but have not had any success myself. My personal issues I think are with the images I am using. I copied all the important files to .d81, but color won't boot. If I leave it in .d64 all is fine. Haven't gone past this point though, so no idea if it actually works. I guess equivalent for that would be Dark star BBS running on a D64TV? Is that possible? The carrier detect signal does not function properly on the virtual user port in VICE and therefore means BBS's can't work properly. Believe me, I've been trying for years. When you actually get into the code that implements the user port RS-232 in VICE you'll understand that the fact it works at all is surprising. A collection of Darkstar 88 and its modules would be nice. I know Ian C has released a cracked version of 3.1, but 88 would be nice. I exchanged a few emails with Ian a while ago, and he mentioned that the copy protection on Darkstar was pretty tough. He does have DS BBS88 but has yet to crack it (as of a few years ago). Still, one can dream.... Hate to single someone out on here, but if Aaron Bochar is reading this, do you have DSBBS88 in your collection? Aaron ran quite a few Darkstar BBS's back in the day, and I know he is on this email list. He mentioned (back in 88) that he might get DSBBS88, but I haven't asked him since. Ok, so it took me 27 years to ask, never said I was quick! :-) In the mean time, here is a link to 3.1http://csdb.dk/release/?id=47911 And a youtube/tpug video of Ian and 3.1https://www.youtube.com/resu lts?search_query=darkstar+bbs I think I'll start and try to get this to work under vice, I know it won't work with telnet servers at 1200, 300 I think works though.
