There are two different sizes of 1541 ROM. I have one chip labelled 1541 DOS which is a 24 pin and the socket on my 1541C drive is 28 pin. Then I have. Another chip that is a 28 pin with no label and that's not a match for a non V4 motherboard on my C64C. The 1541 chip board has 2364 written on it. The other chip board has 23128-23512. My understanding is the 1541 chips should be all the same yes? Why is it the wrong size? Or should the labels have been swapped out?
The 64C also has two sizes. Some 64C units used the old board, with a 24 pin ROM, while others used a 28 pin ROM.
It sounds like your 1541C uses a 1541-II ROM (28 pin). And then you have a 24 pin ROM on the 64C. Pics are always useful to confirm
Also the 1541 chip has the wires soldered to pins 1 and 8.
The one on the 1541, or the JiffyDOS ROM?
The other board has them wired to 1 and 2.
Again, which ROM are we talking about?
So which chip is which and do I have the right set?
It sounds like you have the exact opposites of what you need :-)
