Interesting. I had not seen the euro style keys. Perhaps they are different
because a plant in Germany manufactured them and didn't have the exact same
tooling as the American plant.
I have not inspected the square key keyboard closely. The change might be due
to the fact that Commodore sold PET's in the thousands and VIC/64's in the
millions and had to change keyboard manufacturers to keep up with demand.
If someone can get ahold of Leonard Tramiel we might find out why the
differences.

There are three types of Vic-20 keyboards as a matter of fact,
The PET-style, which was the actual keyboard used on the later Pet machines.
Very heavy.

Eutostile, which have a wider font, not sure how it differentiates underneath
the keys.

And the standard keyboard which was later used on the C64.

Jeff, Thank you for your great answer.
The other link to LMGTFY was a little RAS.
I didn't know that there was a change of key caps in the production of the
keyboard.
Was it just the key caps? or did they change the whole switch???
But just the same, it sounded like there was some sort of different keyboard
layout, but it's not that. Just the shape and print on the Keys.
I doubt this sort of thing would happen today. I mean, companies are so big
now, that nobody wants to change anything in a design for fear that it might
screw up the product. Back then.. people were fast to think on their feet!
Cheers,
Josh

Early Vic-20's had keys that were shaped the same and had the same font as the
PET/CBM line of computers. Later Vic's (and all 64's) had re-designed keys
that were more rounded and had a smaller font. Early Vic-20's are also known
as "Square key Vic-20's".
