On a very sauna-like morning 7 birders joined me for the the Northern VA
Bird Club Walk today at Jones Point Park, Alexandria. Very little to report
in the way of bird highlights, other than the high number of Mockingbirds (5
in one bush). We saw not a single warbler, flycatcher, or sparrow, and it
even took a while for the first Chickadee to make a showing. The complete
list is below. Jones Point Park is right at the point where DC, VA, and MD
intersect and is right at the Wilson Bridge of the I-495 beltway. The
upgrades to the park are now complete and you can access it directly off
Royal Street, with ample parking for all.
On another matter, after the walk Brian Peters and I went looking for the
Greater White-fronted Goose that was first reported 2 days ago at Founders
Park on the Potomac in Alexandria. It was found again yesterday at Oronoco
Bay Park (Oronoco & Union Sts. in Alexandria) by Jason Berry and IDed as a
likely hybrid. We found the bird there again today and I got a few pics,
which can be found at
