We keep track of the date of our 1,000th bird each season, as a gauge of
how the season is progressing, since we usually record about 1300-1600
birds. Today we recorded the 1,000th, a Turkey Vulture, on the earliest date by
far of our 15 seasons. The previous early date was way back on March 30,
1997 and the average is usually mid-April. Our record February total and a
great flight this week...nearly 350 birds over the past 4 days.. has us way
ahead of any previous season.
