The two Swallow-tailed Kites were joined by two Mississippi Kites this morning
in Campbell County. John and I arrived about 11:15 (Mary Foster was there and
I understand that about 8 people had already left). Mary told us that she had
seen two Mississippi Kites in addition to the Swallow-tails. One of the
Mississippi Kites was in juvenile plumage and the other appeared to be an
adult. Occasionally the Swallow-tails would swoop toward the Mississippi
Kites. For the most part, the four birds fed together over the field without
much interaction between the two species. We watched the birds from 11:20 to
noon. The Swallow-tailed Kites were still in sight as we left. The
Swallow-tailed Kites were first seen today at 10:15 am by Jeff Blalock and
others.
