George Wheaton asked that I post the following report on kite sightings at
Waynewood Elementary School in Alexandria, VA this morning. --Ralph Wall
A single Mississippi Kite was spotted at 9:50 at long range, over the tree
line on the south side of the ball field. A second sighting occured a few
minutes later in this same general area, and the bird again disappeared from
view.
At 10:30, an adult Mississippi Kite flew in from the western treeline and
began circling fairly low over the ball field. Within a minute or two, it was
joined by two other birds that also began circling. At 10:35, a fourth
Mississippi Kite joined the kettle. After a couple of minutes, all four birds
streamed
south in the general direction of the original sighting. This appeared to be a
family grouping of two adult and two immature birds.
