I had an appointment on Ft. Belvoir this morning, so I arrived early and did a
couple hours of birding near the archery range and environs. The only
(presumed) migrant was a single Pine Warbler. However, I counted 59 Great
Egrets all in the bay in the vicinity of the archery range. They were all
concentrated in the far end of the bay, and as the tide was coming in later
they gradually took to the trees. It was quite a sight. There were also nice
numbers of N. Rough-winged, Tree, & Barn Swallows and a lone Purple Martin.
Also sighted were 2 Blue Grosbeaks and a lone male Baltimore Oriole. Other than
that it was pretty subdued this morning.
