I visited Hog Island late this afternoon. I didn't see the avocets or a few
other species reported earlier by Arun Bose, but my travels were limited today.
There are lots of grassy areas for grasspipers to hide too! Only Great Egrets
were present at the southern pond and most of the birds were at the north end
of the WMA. Briefly saw a warbler that was similar to a Yellow Warbler, but my
view was terrible. I thought I saw a few Green-winged Teal, but they
disappeared, so I'm not sure. Also, eBird flagged the snipe, and the VA
Annotated Checklist (Goldbook) lists the early date as August 12th.Hog Island
