VA-Birders,
I visited the hike-bike trail at Huntley Meadows this beautiful morning on what
will likely be my last outing before moving away. It seems like the day for
ALDER FLYCATCHERS, as like others, I had one or possibly two of them singing
near the marsh, heard from the platform at the end of the trail - possibly the
same bird found by Kurt Gaskill a day or so ago. This bird is #406 for me for
2008 in the ABA area, and one of the two remaining "must get" year-birds before
leaving the east coast. The last is Bicknell's Thrush, which apparently will
not happen! Other than the Alder, the only other real highlight was the list
of 12 warbler species, and the possible Cliff Swallow I thought I heard flying
over, but did not get on to be sure.
Have a great Summer!
