I hope everyone today at least got a breath of fresh spring air. I
was lucky to get in 90 minutes of birding at Algonkian Park in eastern
Loudoun County this morning. I had a poor day for migrants but a nice
variety of breeding plumages nonetheless. I started at the western
parking lot near the pool, walked past the boat launch around the
soccer field, then back, spending a good amount of time each way in
the eastern picnic area near the boat launch. That is where I have
seen lots of warblers in past years, and had "bup-kiss" there today.
3 species today seemed to be present in unusually high numbers:
Blackpolls, Indigo Buntings, and Eastern Phoebes.
