Birded Algonkian Park this morning for a couple of hours and it was pretty
much devoid of migrants. Somehow I tallied 46 species, but most were typical
resident or nesting birds (including tanagers, orioles, warbling and
red-eyed vireo). My only warblers were two PROTHONOTARY, two BLACK-THROATED
BLUE, and one OVENBIRD. Also had a flock of CEDAR WAXWINGS.
Feeling a little unsatisfied, I stopped by the Sugarland Run trail in
Herndon at about 9:45 and found a mini fallout of BLACKPOLL WARBLERS (not a
single other warbler found), with 7 individuals seen within a short stretch
and more birds heard. All the birds I saw were males.
