The American White Pelican which seems to be hanging out between Hog Island
and Ragged Island was present today in the large impoundment of HIWMA (SE
corner).
Also notable was a gorgeous male Long-tailed Duck (uncommon to rare this
far upriver) in close to the fishing beach, 65 Tundra Swan feeding in one
of the central impoundments, and a pair of calling Great Horned Owls. 48
species total in about 2 hours.
The Great Blue Herons are pretty far along in nest building, giving their
pterodactyl cries from the tops of large pine trees. Spring is coming!
