Julie and I walked down Haul Road at Dyke’s Marsh around 10:30 this morning to
look for the Screech-owl. There were a lot of other birders watching the tree
cavity were it has been nesting, but no bird. We walked on for a while, then
returned at 11:45. As we observed the tree cavity, the Screech-owl appeared in
the hole! It was interesting to note that the tree cavity simply seemed to
disappear after the Screech-owl fully filled the opening. When we changed
positions to get different views, it was actually difficult to re-find the
bird it was so well camouflaged!
