Spring Greetings,
Steve Living of DGIF and I found Blue-gray Gnatcatchers (BGGN) in Chesapeake
too -- following on to Nick Flanders note about these early arrivals in NNews.
We were out trolling around Northwest River Park in Chesapeake checking the
Prothonotary Warbler boxes and Steve first spotted the gnatcatcher very close
to the shore.
Then we flushed a single Anhinga (ANHI) on another section of the creek. It
circled around overhead for a while and looked like it wanted to land again.
Perhaps it did after we left.
Also, earlier in the morning, Steve received a call from his DGIF associate,
Eric, who was on the Blackwater River in Franklin. He observed 6 Anhingas there
yesterday morning.
Closer to home, the Hermit Thrush (HETH) is still under my feeders. The
Carolina Chickadee (CACH) nest in my nest box is almost done, with a defined
cup and a bit of soft lining.
By the way, Steve and I found 4-5 chickadee nests in the PROW boxes in
Chesapeake. No eggs, but they use the soft fibers of cattails to line the cups.
Sorry if the four letter codes cluttered up the message. I'm trying to learn a
few …
