Early morning bird walk. I ran into my friend Chris M. Carolle, whom I last
heard from a little more than three months ago. We walked around birding
together and the first thing we saw were 7 Mute Swans, swimming in the
pond. First time I've ever seen that many at the park. Next were about two
dozen Canada Geese. We actually saw six of them laying eggs! The sunlight
on the water was beautiful, too - after a goose took off, there were five
golden-colored ripples of sunlight in the water!
Next was a walk in the woods where we heard 4 Red-bellied Woodpeckers
drumming and calling to each other. Then a rarity! 3 Western European
Junglefowls (together with a pair of Mourning Doves) eating acorns and
seeds under a tree. Finally, while admiring the beauty of the blooming
Bradford Pear trees, we saw a Northern Bobwhite fly into the tree.
SO ... altogether, Chris (who had to leave but promised to come see me the
next time he was in town, in about 8 months) and I saw:
7 swans a-swimming
6 geese a-laying
5 golden rings!
4 calling birds
3 French Hens
2 Mourning Doves -
and a Bobwhite in a Pear Tree!
