When I got out of my car I glanced up and 10 BROAD-WINGED HAWKS were circling,
maybe 200 feet above. They slowly gained altitude and drifted to the east. A
new yard bird and quite a treat. I ran over and pointed them out to a kid on
the landscaping crew doing some work for me, he seemed to enjoy them.
Last week around dusk three COMMON NIGHTHAWKS and dozens of CHIMNEY SWIFTS
spent an hour in the neighborhood, well above the urban forest canopy.
A WOOD-PEEWEE in a small mixed flock last week was also a new yard bird. No
large Robin/Blackbird/Grackle flocks this year.
