I got to Occoquan Bay NWR (Woodbridge, Prince William Co.)around 1 p.m. today.
I saw much of what Marc reported earlier, as our paths crossed twice. I took
the short way back on Easy Road and was rewarded with a King Rail crossing the
road at the marsh. 2 Wilson’s Snipe also were present in the marsh. A little
further on same road I hear, then saw my first Blue-gray Gnatcatcher of the
season. Not far from that there were 2 Brown Thrashers scratching in the leaves
behind the one of the benches along the road. I then went down Fox Road to see
the 2 Great Egrets and on the way back to the car I heard, then saw a single
Rusty Blackbird. It was a pretty good afternoon of birding.
