The original BAEA nest on the Holy Cross Abbey property in Clarke Co, has
been replaced by another nest, down-river from it about 500 yards. The old
nest, always hard to see from the south side of the river (on Cool Spring
Campus of Shenandoah University), has been taken over by a CANADA GOOSE.
Yesterday, with binoculars only, we thought we saw that, through the
numerous branches. Today, we took our scope and confirmed what we had
suspected. Our records for this old nest only go back to 2010, so we don't
really know when it was built. We may never know why this nest was abandoned
and replaced by the eagles, but we were certainly surprised to see who took
it over.
