For three nights recently, my son and I have attempted to capture photos of
a barn owl in flight. Forty-five or fifty minutes after leaving our setup
on the first night, we got one photograph. So far, that has been our only
one.
Next year when owls are feeding young, we hope to capture them bringing
food. Where these particular owls typically nest, they are out of our reach
for photography. If anyone knows of a place we may be able to capture owls
bringing food to young, any species, you are welcome to let us know.

Today I was sending e-mails to photographers asking to use some bird photos
for an upcoming magazine, when I looked out the window and saw a
black-throated green warbler on the tip of a small Japanese maple. The
camera was set up in the doorway, so I slipped over hoping to get a
photograph of it. Before I was able to get the photo on the tree, it
dropped down to the ground. The first photo shows it looking at a walking
stick. Following that, I got about forty of him eating the thing. He was
remarkably neat at cleaning up his plate, as when I thought it was all over,
he looked around and picked up one last broken-off leg and devoured it too.
