Rachel Echols and I went to Bethel Beach this morning. It was so bitter cold
with high winds, but we saw a few shorebirds. There were 3 Bald Eagles on
the sand when we got there. One adult and two immatures. They flew off a
ways when we walked out to the little peninsula. Shortly after we got out
there, one of the immatures landed very close to us. Rachel thought he might
have had something wrong with his eye. After downloading the pictures, I
could see it was both eyes. When he turned his head, he saw us and he
managed to fly around and locate the other two Eagles across the way, so he
must be able to see a little. I don't suppose anything could be done for
him? Is it possible he will recover? Maybe if he sticks with the other two
eagles?
Images are here. Be sure to view the original size, although they are pretty
yucky to see.
