Somehow I missed most of the spring migrating warblers this year. With fall
migration underway I am slowly (and frequently sleepy) catching up on the
warblers. In the past several weeks Blue-winged Warbler, Chestnut-sided
Warbler, American Redstart, Ovenbird, and Common Yellowthroat have visited
the yard. This morning another migrant showed up. With a nice steaming cup
of coffee in my hand I was amazed to see a male Black-throated Blue Warbler
hop on the patio not 10 ft away from me. The bird hung out for a while and
was checking the various flower pots and debris on the porch. He was totally
oblivious to me (or simply ignored me) before he took off again. Checking
my year list, I was surprised to see that this a first of year bird. Ah
well, better late than never.
